October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, celebrating the valuable and numerous contributions made by people with a variety of disabilities and promoting inclusion of the disabled in the workforce and community involvement. It is sponsored by the U. S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy. The Americans with Disabilities Act, enacted in 1990, provides the foundation for legislation and opportunities created for disabled Americans.
